Reading may save the fruitless labor of seeking, by observation and experiment, information which is already in the literature; but do not be convinced too easily that something you wish to investigate has already been studied exhaustively. Books are less often made use of a 'spectacles' to look at nature with, than as blinds to keep out its strong light and shifting scenery from weak eyes and indolent dispositions.
